The Lockmen stormed to their first win of the season against a physical Telford Juniors side.
The visitors took an early eighth minute lead when Shaun Thomas finished a fine move down th left with a close range strike into the roof of the net. He volleyed first time across the goal soon after as Willenhall continued their good start. However, two moments of sloppy defending saw them go in trailing at the break. The first, midway through the opening half, saw a badly scuffed free-kick catch them out, two failed attempts to clear the ball saw it knocked home. The second, a minute from the break, saw a poor cross missed twice, the ball caught The Lockmen keeper unawares and somehow it bounced into the corner of the goal.
Willenhall came out with more purpose after the break and thought they had levellled when four attempted shots from four different players were charged down in quick succesion before being scrambled clear. However, as the home side got more free with their wayward challenges, The Lockmen found more determination and equalised with a fine strike across the keeper by Jake Sharman, who picked up a pass, controlled and sent his effort flashing across the keeper. There was only one team in it now and the winner came when a long ball picked out Carl Guinnand he neatly controlled before lifting an effort over the keeper. In the last minute the referee dismissed a home player for a two footed jump at Rob O’Brien that caught him late.
